So the Giants Browns game just ended, what a game! Well, for a preseason game anyway. This game was filled with plenty of high flying offense, hard hitting defense, and a couple of great special teams plays. The final score of 34-37, however, did not do the game justice.
During the game, Tony Kornheiser said that nobody looks at the final score of a preseason game, just what the first string players do in the first one and a half quarters. Well in that case, the New York Football Giants looked just like the defending champs they are. by the time Eli came out of the game I believe the score was 30-3. Manning and Domenik Hixon hooked up twice in the end zone, both exceptional passes, and both more than exceptional catches. And if that weren't enough, Hixon then runs back a safety free kick for 82 yards for his third TD of the quarter... Thats right, three in one QUARTER. Long story short, the Giants look good.
Maybe the Browns should throw their second and third string teams out there, because The starters looked just awful. During the first quarter, Cleveland kept making dumb mistakes and getting penalized left and right for stupid things, such as "fifteen yards for swinging at a player and missing". I didn't make that up. That was a real call made by the referee. Sounds pretty stupid, huh? Mike Tirico was joking, "If you get fifteen yards for swinging and missing, how much do you get for swinging and hitting?" This made me, as well as others at the bar, laugh out loud (literally). Because that was the Browns' game was tonight, laughable. A blocked punt by their own player for a safety, a fumble resulting in a 95 yard TD run the other way by Eric Butler, not to mention Derek Anderson not being able to move the ball in the direction he wanted. I was actually surprised to see him still in there after the first quarter ended. He ended the night 4/10 with only 20 yards and "left the game shortly after with a possible concussion after being sacked by Osi Umenyiora." (ESPN.com) I always feel bad when someone gets hurt in a preseason game, especially your starting quarterback. Does this mean that good ole Brady Quinn will become the starting QB? I guess only time will tell.
