Monday... The Favre Fun Continues

It seems a little odd that I am posting my first post on the so-called "Slowest day of the sporting year" The middle of July, the NBA and NHL championships are over, NFL and NCAA football haven't started yet, and the only sport going on is baseball, but even that is in the All-Star break. What is a writer supposed to do?

Enter BRETT FAVRE. Its the talk of every sports show, every discussion at the water cooler, and I am sick of it. If you have not heard yet, Favre wants to come out of retirement and wants to be released by the Green Bay Packers. He has "the itch" to play again and wants to come back. Then why do you want to be released? Oh yeah, Ted Thompson and the Packers have "moved on" and are now giving the pigskin to Aaron Rodgers, long time backup to Favre. Thompson said that if Favre wanted to come back, he could come to training camp as Rodgers' backup, but they will not guarantee the starting position and they most certainly not release him.

So that gives Brett Favre a couple of options. He can either stay retired or he can be reinstated as a Green Bay Packer. That in turn gives the Packers a couple of options: keep him, trade him. Its that easy, or is it? If you decide to trade him, how do you put a price on a player who was so important to your organization? How do you allow him to play in a different uniform? There are loyal fans that will never let you live it down if he goes on to do something great. Could you see Brett Favre go to the Bears or the Vikings and win an NFC Championship? Can you say the curse of the Bambino? But Ted Thompson said that he will not trade Brett Favre to an NFC North team, or any NFC team for that matter. So how about AFC teams? The Ravens have said that they were not interested, Miami may have interest (but that looks like it would probably not be a great fit). So a trade might not be in Brett Favre's future. What I think will eventually happen with this whole crazy thing is that Brett will realize that a trade is not going to happen and that the only way he can come back to the NFL is getting reinstated and putting on that yellow helmet with that ever so familiar "G", and eventually beat Aaron Rodgers out for the starting position and will eventually be taking that first snap in week 1.

And I will be glad when that happens because I won't have to hear about it anymore.
